We provided expert advice to a UK train operating company on the software‑safety assurance of a newly introduced fleet, focusing on the vehicle control software and its integration with safety‑related functions. Our work included reviewing the supplier’s software assurance processes, examining change‑control arrangements, and advising on appropriate levels of rigour for safety‑related functions—particularly where standards require interpretation and strengthened assurance measures. This support helped the operator gain greater confidence in the software architecture, test environment and verification activities associated with the new fleet, and strengthened its ability to engage effectively with the manufacturer on ongoing software development.
